My #1 motivation

About 6 years ago, I discovered a system that works -without fail- to motivate me to work out... color-coordinated workout calendars.

I am SUCH a visual person. I carry colored pencils and markers to class with me to re-write all my notes and color coordinate them!

I stick this on my refrigerator and am forced to look at it every morning while I forage for food and coffee, and if I see that it's been a few days since I've worked out, I get my butt to the gym ASAP. The blue X's are for gym days, where I spend at least 45 minutes working out and do a combination of cardio (2-3 miles) and weights. The yellow X's are given when I just walk 10,000 steps (around the island or whatever) or simply run a mile on the treadmill (my lazy days).

I am obviously really horrible about working out on the weekends, for a variety of reasons. I teach all day Saturday, then I usually devote the rest of the weekend to Amelia and H.

This month was not bad, and I was awesome about going to the gym in the beginning of the month, slacking off a bit towards the end (due to 2 exams and a little bit of sickness). I'm back on track now (I actually just got back from running 2 miles and doing weights). I've thankfully have kept the 4 lbs off that I lost this month, despite a little overindulgence at a Super Bowl party last night:
The chicken wings did me in... I ate EIGHT!! Around 700 calories worth, UGH. Oh well, you have to indulge occasionally and I definitely enjoyed it!

even before my surgery I could never eat wings... made me so sick... But Jeremy loves them... so yesterday I made my own super spicy BBQ sauce and cooked chicken tenders in them... he love it!

But I love the calendar... such an awesome idea!!

What a neat way to keep yourself motivated! It has to feel good to look at that calendar and see how productive you've been with workouts! Great idea!

Everything is more fun with markers! I still take crayons and coloring books when I fly because coloring is so relxing. Now that I have a kid, I won't look so crazy doing it.

Love the calendar idea!

What a great idea! I just might have to steal that idea (I've been trying to get back on the working out band wagon).

Congrats on your four pounds! I totally need to do the same.

I think this is a fantastic idea! But how do you do it with your lil' one? Is there daycare at your gym??? I really would love to know because thats one of my biggest issues.
